This is the small slice of God's universe where I, Robert C. J. Parry, get to share my thoughts on whatever I happen to write about. This is not my diary. I'll not waste time ranting about things that do not effect your life.
Rather, I intend this to be a space where the things that impassion me can be extended to you. Where we can connect and, perhaps, I can inspire thoughts of your own. Or, better yet, actions.
So, what, in that case, brings out passion in me?
I am a believer in truth and justice, right and wrong. I cannot stand duplicity or double speak. I am obsessed by those who defend evil yet carry some other banner.
I returned from Iraq in January of 2006, having received much praise from writers I deeply respect as to my talents as represented in emails I posted from there. I specifically did not start a blog there as I found most soldiers blogs to be entirely too focused on the author and not the story. I did not want to fall into the same trap, yet knew not of what else to write. You shall find some of my emails from there posted here, and thus can judge for yourself.
That said, here is a small sliver about me. I am the husband of Maribel, my Beautacious Wifey. She is a democrat by leaning and professional persuasion, thus you can posit that I am quite open to the other side of a story.
I am a life-long Episcopalien, and proclaim myself a Johnny Cash Christian. That is, I am flawed and fail, but do try. I strive to have compassion for the poor and the dowtrodden, prisoners and the oppressed.
I think homelessness, especially as it exists in downtown Los Angeles is both our greatest national shame, and the most blatant spotlight of the lie in liberals' claim of being more caring. Liberals have run this town for as long as I can remember, yet thousands sleep on the streets just blocks from City Hall.
I think Bono, while I do not always agree with his views, is an amazingly courageous yet pragmatic and determined man.
I think policing is the single most important thing the government does. In fact, on a local level, it might be the only thing government should do. that said, I think cops are heros in the flesh, and that those who betray their badges should be punished in the most meaningful manner possible. Those who make cops out to be the root of evil are the lowest form of filth in politics.
I think the concept of service is fading fromt he American culture, in a way that is killing our country. I think every male ought to serve a tour in the military, but that no one should be forced to. Being a soldier is the best thing I've ever done (except marrying Maribel).
I believe in the superiority of Trojan Football, and think dogs are a man's best friend.
If you want to know anything else, you're just gonna have to read my blog.
