Speeding Update & NPRA General News

Some updates on NPRA and Primrose issues:

Robert talked to CPT Hunt of MPD during the last City Council meeting. He advised that the blue pick-up truck in question has been tickted several times since we brought it to his attention. This is good news!  Also, we are in the MPD traffic enforcement matrix, and should be getting a couple of hours of coverage each week. Several of your have complained that there just does not seem to be enough happening from the City. However, the speed trailer is making another rotation through at Oaks and Primrose, so hopefully that will have an effect. 

We think the consensus of the neighborhood, however, is that passive measures are having a limited effect.  Dennis, from the 200 block, will be sending an email to City Manager Scott Ochoa in an attempt to get more progress.

With that in mind, we'd like to have a neighborhood meeting to discuss some issues.  One of the things that were brought up back in January was the idea that this effort of ours should have some formal structure. We had resisted that idea, because we wanted to keep things simple, and not overbearing.  However, in light of recent developments, we'd like to have a meeting to discuss that very idea.

We will let you know when and where, but would appreciate your thoughts and ideas, plus preferred dates. Email us at northprimrose@gmail.com.  We will try to combine this "business" meeting with a presentation from the Monrovia Police Department on crime prevention, and make it a two-fer, possibly a backyard barbecue.

In addition, as most of you are aware, the Monrovia Police Officers Association and the City Council are at laggerheads over a contract. We have received a lot of questions on this.  We would like to hold a discussion with a representative of the Council and one from the POA so you can ask them questions, face to face, and guage their answers for yourself. We might even make that meeting a three-fer.

The meeting with the City to discuss Primrose solutions is Tuesday (tomorrow as of this writing) March 12 11, 7:00 P.M. at City Hall.

Despite numerous attempts by this organization to schedule a mutually acceptable night to review options for controlling the speed on Primrose Avenue, yesterday's mail brought word from City Engineer David Fike that the City has decreed what day the next meeting will be (again).

Apparently, having screwed up the first time by failing to coordinate calendars, the City chose to go forward without regard to residents' desires.  Last time they set the meeting for the Mayflower School open house.  We recommended March 3 or 6, based on your responses to our last inquiry.  Mr. Ochoa and Mr. Fike did not find our requests worthy of acknowledgment.

Hopefully, this time, despite ignoring our overtures, they got it right.  We'll see.

Anyway, here's the details:  Tuesday, March 11, City Hall.

Perhaps they will listen to what we have to say. Thus far, their record in that regard is very weak.

This household does not hold its breath.

Robert addressed the City Council tonight regarding our progress and concerns. The full text is in the previous post.

We got some immediate progress, the most significant of which was that City Manager Scott Ochoa said he will be seeking to identify another date for a meeting. He also cited some options to "slow down the process" in order to more fully explore options.

There seems to be some reluctance from the City leadership to work with us (Robert & Maribel) as a point of contact, even though they were left to appologize tonight for creating a conflict with the Mayflower School open house. This entire effort is designed to avoid those conflicts.

We will be making one more attempt with Mr. Ochoa to identify a mutually agreeable date. Clearly, we can not align schedules for all 60+ homes on the street as well the effected surrounding streets.  But, we think that having a primary point of contact to work out these details and stream-line the exchange of information will gain the greatest participation possible.

In an effort to get the ball rolling, please identify for us dates AFTER MARCH 2 that DO NOT work for you.  Obviously, March 5 is out, due to the Mayflower School Open House.  March 4 is also out, due to the City Council meeting.

So, is Thursday March 6th the best?  What about Monday, the 3rd? Let us know. Please talk to your neighbors, folks at church, little league families and other school parents who live in our immediate area to identify the best date.  Get them involved and have them email us so that we can find the best solution for everyone.

Next up on the agenda.

Lest anyone should think we weren't serious about the "theatrics" at the council meeting... 

... yes, those are crows snaking on several bags worth of Wendy's detritus on Primrose.

This will be an item for the agenda at our follow-up meeting.  Speaking of our next meeting, February 19 is four weeks from the date of our first meeting.  The City asked for 30 days.  So, please advise if you are unavailable between Feb 19-26. This week, we will be trying to schedule a meeting for that time frame with the City.

All the cool kids will be there!

OK, our first meting with the City to address the problems on the street is set.  This will be the beginning of a process, and it will be a deliberative one, but we will not allow bureaucratic obfuscation to hold up progress.  There will be an end, and our problem WILL be solved.

Bring a little cash with you, as there will be a expenses to offset for some of the Alliance members, plus we will be taking up a collection for a couple of neighborly contributions you might want to make. You'll understand at the meeting.  $10 is more than sufficient.
